A 10-year-old girl was found murdered in front of Mysuru Palace, two days after a man was murdered by a gang at the same place.

The family of the victim, who had woken up due to heavy rain, was shocked to find their daughter missing from their shed during the wee hours of Thursday. They later found her body unclothed in an open drain in front of the Mysuru Palace, 50 meters away from their shed. The family suspects that the girl was raped and murdered.

With the help of nearby CCTVs, police identified the accused, Karthik, 38, a resident of Siddalingapura of Mysuru taluk. According to police, he was a habitual offender and was recently released from jail after a two-year imprisonment.

At the time of the incident, the accused was allegedly wandering in an intoxicated state.

The family had come from Kalaburgi district to sell toys and was camping in Doddakere grounds near the Dasara wrestling grounds. 

Nearly 50 families from the Kalaburgi district, selling toys and balloons, have been camping in various locations of Mysuru for the past 15 days for Dasara.
