Shivamogga, 24 Aug

In a harrowing case that has sent shockwaves through Shivamogga in Karnataka, police have arrested a woman suspected of murdering her newborn son in the toilet of McGann Hospital's maternity ward.

The tragic incident occurred on 16 August, and has been investigated by the Doddapete Police, led by Inspector Ravi Patil.

The lifeless body of the infant was discovered in the toilet, with evidence indicating that his throat had been slit.

Hospital staff had noted one case of an admitted woman whose newborn was unaccounted for, leading to suspicion of Shaila, a resident of Timlapura village, who had claimed she experienced a miscarriage at home.

Following a formal complaint from hospital administrators, police tracked Shaila, ultimately taking her into custody after she was discharged.

During interrogation, she confessed that the child was hers and admitted to the act of killing him.

Sources suggest that Shaila, already a mother of two, had concealed her pregnancy after undergoing infertility treatment.

The investigation continues, examining how she accessed the weapon used in the crime and the broader implications for maternity ward security.
