Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar dismissed former State’s cooperation minister KN Rajanna claims that irregularities in voter lists occurred during the Congress-led tenure “right in front of our eyes”.

Addressing reporters in Tumakuru, Rajanna had asked why Congress leaders “turned a blind eye” over irregularities in voter lists and kept silent when they should have raised objections.

Rajanna’s remarks come after Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi alleged massive electoral fraud in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and said there are over 1 lakh fake votes in the electoral rolls in a Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha constituency.

“Rajanna is totally at fault. He doesn’t know,” Shivakumar told reporters in Bengaluru on Monday.

Shivakumar further said that the poll body should reply to the objections raised Gandhi, “Whatever documents Election Commission is asking, we are not schoolboys to reply whatever they ask. They are supposed to give us.”

Earlier, Rajanna had said. “When was the voter list prepared? It was prepared when our own government was in power. At that time, was everyone just sitting quietly with eyes closed? If we speak casually, we’ll have to say many things…. These irregularities happened right in front of our eyes – we should feel ashamed. We didn’t take care of it at the time.”

Meanwhile, BJP came to the defence of Rajanna, asking why the Congress was supressing ministers who “dared to speak the truth”.

After Rajanna exposed the lies of clown Rahul Gandhi, he has been humiliated and unceremoniously shunted out of the Cabinet,” the State BJP X handle wrote on X. “In Congress, truth has no place, survival means bending backwards as a gulam to the dynasty…. Without lies, Congress dies.”

Similarly, Opposition Leader R Ashoka wrote on X, “In Congress, truth is the biggest crime. Rajanna merely stated a fact…. If their own minister says the electoral roll was their creation, whom are they blaming now? Congress is allergic to truth, and quick to punish anyone who dares speak it. The people of Karnataka can see through this hypocrisy.”
