One person was injured when the roof of an anganwadi centre in Aldarthi village of Arakera taluk in Raichur district collapsed on Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred shortly after the anganwadi centre had opened and the children had been sent out to play. There were eight children present on the premises, who escaped unhurt.
It is reported that Mahadevamma, who is a teacher at the anganwadi, was sitting at her desk writing a report when the roof suddenly collapsed. Hearing the sounds, the locals rushed to the centre and admitted the injured teacher to the Devadurga Government Hospital. The teacher was later stated to be out of danger.
Speaking to Salar News, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Madhav Anehoesur said that the centre has 20 children, of whom 8 were present on Thursday. “A comprehensive review report of the anganwadi school building is being sent to higher authorities,” Anehoesur said.
Based on the directions issued by the Women and Child Development Department, the anganwadi centre has been shifted to a new rented building to ensure the safety of the children.
