NEW DELHI, 3 AUG

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Thursday called for the creation of “advocate banks” in every constituency to protect voter and party worker rights, in line with the vision of Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge.

Speaking at an AICC event on ‘Constitutional Challenges: Pathways and Perspectives’, Shivakumar emphasised the need to uphold the Constitution and democracy. “Congress’ history is the country’s history. We must stand ready to protect it,” he said.

He recalled his political journey, crediting Rajiv Gandhi for giving him his first ticket and expressing gratitude to senior advocates and Sonia for their support during his Tihar Jail stint. “Sonia’s visit to jail was a symbol of loyalty to party workers,” he said.

Shivakumar stressed the Gandhi family’s legacy, noting Sonia’s decision to forgo the Prime Minister's post as a rare act of sacrifice. “We must work tirelessly to bring Congress to power in 2029 and make Rahul prime minister,” he urged.

He concluded by urging Congress workers to review voter rolls and strengthen legal cells at the grassroots.
