Another nursing student ends life at MIMS

A 21-year-old final-year nursing student at MIMS died by suicide in the girls’ hostel, just 10 days after a similar case in the boys’ hostel. Police are investigating both incidents.

Within 10 days after a student committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in a nursing hostel for boys at the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS), another final-year BSC nursing student took her own life on the same campus. 


According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Nishkala, 21, a resident of Gunnayakanahalli of Mandya district. She hanged herself from a ceiling fan of the girls’ hostel on Saturday night. 


The incident came to light when her roommate found Nishakala hanging in the evening. 


Bharat, a final-year nursing student, committed suicide in the boys’ hostel ten days ago. Police are yet to ascertain what drove the two students to the extreme step. Mandya East police have registered a case.
