Heavy rain leads to school closures in Kodagu and Udupi

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Telangana, predicting light to moderate rain in the coming days.

Kodagu, 18 July 


Venkata Raju, the Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Kodagu, has announced the closure of schools and colleges in the district due to persistent heavy rainfall. Rainfall has been observed across various regions, including Madikeri, Virajpet, and Somwarpet.


Similarly, the Deputy Commissioner of Udupi has ordered the closure of schools and Anganwadis in areas impacted by the severe weather. Udupi, along with other parts of coastal Karnataka, including Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada, continues to experience heavy rainfall.


The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Telangana, predicting light to moderate rain in the coming days. K Nagaratna, Director of the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, stated that the monsoon trough is expected to influence weather patterns, likely resulting in increased rainfall activity over the next few days.


The IMD has forecast isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and certain regions of Karnataka from 16-22 July, with similar weather anticipated for Lakshadweep, Rayalaseema, and Telangana.
