Bidar, 18 July
A young woman has filed a complaint with
the State Commission for Women against Prateek Chavan, son of former minister
and Aurad BJP MLA, Prabhu Chavan, alleging sexual harassment under the false
promise of marriage.
The woman had attempted to file an FIR at
the Hokrana Police Station in Aurad, but the police refused to register the
case.
She alleged that Prateek had established
sexual relations with her on the pretext of marrying her. Both their families
had agreed to the marriage and they were formally engaged in December, 2023.
Following the engagement, Prateek took her
on various trips, during which he allegedly insisted on being physically
intimate with her. However, he evaded the marriage, instead questioning her on
her virginity.
When the woman’s parents visited Prateek’s
house to confront him, they were allegedly insulted for being “poor.”
Prateek’s family used their influence to
avoid legal action, she alleged.
Meanwhile, Prabhu termed these allegations
as a political conspiracy by opponents.
He said that his son’s engagement to the
woman was called off in the presence of both families. The allegations made by
her and the “invisible forces” behind her will be responded to
legally.
