BELAGAVI, 17 JULY
Dharwad Additional Superintendent of Police Narayan
Baramani, who took back his request for voluntary retirement from the services
following a recent “humiliating act” by the Chief Minister, has been posted as
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) of Belagavi.
The officer had said that he and his family were subjected
to humiliation after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah raised his hand at him at an
event at Belagavi recently. He returned to the service after much convincing by
ministers G Parameshwar and HK Patil and his senior colleagues.
Parameshwar said Bramani is being given a promotion. The
minister said the CM did not intend to slap or insult the officer at the
convention.
Reports had said that after a few women workers of the BJP
waved black flags and shouted slogans when he was addressing the rally, an
irked Siddaramaiah called Baramani toward him on the stage and made a gesture
similar to slapping him.
Baramani was assigned only the stage duty while the
disruption happened off the stage, in an area assigned to another officer, the
reports said.
Social media activists in Belagavi hailed Baramani’s
promotion as “Singam Returns”, as he has served most of his service in the
district. —Salar News
