A concerning
trend of poultry thefts has emerged in Chintamani, with local breed birds (nati
koli) being targeted by thieves looking to profit. Recently, villagers from
three localities lodged complaints at the Chintamani rural police station.
Reports indicate that residents from Kaiwara Cross, Katriguppe, Ullappanahalli,
Kundalagurki, and Chintudupi have all experienced similar thefts. Villagers
observed CCTV footage which revealed thieves scaling compound walls to steal
birds from enclosed farms. Muniyappa, a resident of Kaiwara Cross, noted that
the local poultry is prized not only for its taste but also for its perceived
medicinal properties. As a result, these birds fetch a higher market price. The
community is now urging police action to combat this troubling trend and
safeguard their valuable livestock.
