NEW DELHI, 9 JULY
At a 'Bihar Bandh'
rally on Wednesday, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav
levelled serious allegations against the Election Commission, accusing it of
facilitating electoral manipulation. In response, BJP spokesperson Shehzad
Poonawalla claimed the two leaders were undermining constitutional institutions
to shield their families and avoid political defeat.
Speaking to ANI,
Poonawalla said, “Rahul and Tejashwi are accusing the Election Commission of
theft. One is from a ‘fodder scam party’, the other from a ‘land scam party’.
They target institutions only when results don’t favour them.”
He pointed out
that the same leaders had praised the Election Commission after victories in
Karnataka, Telangana, and Himachal Pradesh, but questioned its integrity
following losses in Maharashtra and Haryana. “This isn’t about the EC; it’s
about conditional commitment. Their loyalty lies with dynastic politics, not
the Constitution,” he added.
Poonawalla also
questioned their faith in the judiciary, as the Supreme Court is set to hear
the voter list revision case on 10 July. “If they trust the Court, why take to
the streets?” he asked.
Earlier, Rahul
Gandhi warned of a repeat of “vote theft” in Bihar, similar to alleged
irregularities in Maharashtra.
