Chikkaballapura, 8 July

Chikkaballapura rural police arrested Bheema Raj, a Second Division Assistant at the Government First Grade College, Chikkaballapura for raping a second-year degree student and impregnating her. 

Sources said that Raj, originally from Chamarajnagar, approached the girl on the premises of helping her prepare for competitive exams. He said he and his  wife had previously cleared the KPSC exams.

He then allegedly took her to his house multiple times, where along with his wife, helped her prepare for the exams. On one such visit, he raped her when his wife was not home. As a result, she became pregnant and has now completed six months of pregnancy, said police sources.

The girl who belonged to the Lambani community (SC) lodged a complaint with the women police station in Chikkaballapur. The police have arrested Raj and remanded him to judicial custody.  Besides rape charge, he is also booked under the Prevention of the Atrocities Act.

The accused and his wife previously worked as police constables in City, sources said.
