Bidar, 3 July

A accident near Ghodampalli village, Bidar taluk, claimed two lives when a Tata Mini goods vehicle lost control due to overspeeding and plunged into an open roadside well at 9.30pm on Wednesday. Driver Lakshmikant Kantu Maharaj, 45, and passenger Ravi, 18, died on the spot. Five others were seriously injured and are hospitalised.

The tragedy deepened when Lakshmikant’s 86-year-old mother, Sharadabai Maharaj, suffered a fatal heart attack upon hearing the news, raising the death toll to three. Locals blame uncovered wells and excessive speed breakers for the mishap. Villagers have repeatedly urged authorities to cover the wells and remove unnecessary speed breakers, but no action has been taken.

Bidar South MLA Shailendra Beldale assured a meeting would be held to address these concerns and promised compensation to the victims’ families. A police case has been registered following the incident.
