Mysuru, 29 June
In a first, the
KRS dam, the lifeline of old Mysore region, reached its full capacity in June.
After a gap of 83
years, the reservoir reached its full capacity of 124.4ft. The last time
the dam reached its capacity was in 1941.
Marking this rare
event, CM Siddaramaiah will offer the traditional bagina on Monday.
In view of this
landmark occasion, the Cauvery Neeravari Nigam has undertaken elaborate
preparations. The dam is being whitewashed, and Kannada flags now flutter in
the area.
The ceremonial
event will take place at Srirangapatna taluk, Mandya district. Deputy Chief
Minister DK Shivakumar, ministers, and local MLAs will attend the event.
"Typically,
baagina is offered at the end of July or in Aug. But due to a good monsoon this
year, the reservoir has already been filled in June," the Chief Minister's
Office said in a statement.
Baagina consists
of a sari, blouse fabric, flowers, fruits, bangles, arishina-kumkuma (turmeric
and vermilion), and rice placed on a bamboo mora.
After the offering,
Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, who also holds the Water portfolio, will offer
prayers at Cauvery statue on the dam premises.
Meanwhile, Kabini
reservoir saw a slight increase in both inflow and outflow.
