A five-year-old tigress has been found dead in the Gundre forest range within the Bandipur Tiger Reserve, forest officials confirmed on Saturday.

The carcass was discovered by forest department staff on Thursday evening during a routine patrol. A post-mortem examination conducted on Friday concluded that the tigress had died of natural causes, specifically due to starvation following injuries sustained in a territorial fight.

Prabhakaran, Conservator of Forests at Bandipur, said: “The tigress was involved in infighting and later starved as it was unable to hunt. The post-mortem report confirmed there was no food in its stomach or intestines.”

Authorities have ruled out any foul play and continue to monitor wildlife activity in the region.
