Thirteen years after its foundation was laid, the construction of BR. Ambedkar Bhavan on Dewan’s Road in Mysuru remains incomplete, drawing sharp criticism from Prabhudha Bharatha Bheem Sene. The organisation’s president, Siddaraju, has warned of launching an indefinite protest if construction does not resume within 15 days.

Addressing media on Monday, Siddaraju described the delay as a “grave insult” to Dr Ambedkar. He criticised the inaction despite Mysuru being represented by key leaders like Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and District Social Welfare Minister HC Mahadevappa, both known for championing Ambedkar’s ideals.

The project, which began in 2012 with a budget of Rs 4.66 crore, has already consumed ₹20.66 crore, with 60% of the work reportedly completed. The second phase, involving interior works and parking facilities, requires an additional Rs 23 crore. Though Rs 23.80 crore has been approved, no visible progress has followed.

Siddaraju demanded transparency and accountability from the authorities. “If there are genuine hurdles, they should be made public. Silence is not an option,” he asserted.

Public anger is growing, with citizens and community leaders urging immediate action. For many, the Bhavan is more than a building—it symbolises a long-overdue tribute to the architect of the Indian Constitution.
