Former chairman of Karnataka State Bhovi Development Corporation, GV Seetharam on Sunday urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to nominate one of the leaders from Bhovi community to the State legislative council in the upcoming elections.

Seetharam said that even though the Bhovi community strongly supported Congress in both State legislative assembly and Parliament elections, the party did not provide a ticket to any leader from the community to contest in the parliamentary elections.

The Congress’ high command also failed to nominate a leader from the community to Rajya Sabha.

“Former Congress chief minister R Gundurao had nominated R Peeranna of the Bhovi community to the State legislative council. After him no leader from the community was elected to legislative council,” Seetharam said.

He also appealed that the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister to nominate small leaders instead of preferring prominent ones from the Bhovi community. The community also prevailed upon the State government to nominate one of its members to council.
