Woman killed by tiger near Bandipur reserve

A 32-year-old woman, Puttamma, was killed by a tiger while herding cattle near Bandipur Tiger Reserve's Omkar range in Chamarajanagara. Forest officials launched a search, set up camera traps, and urged locals to stay alert.

Chamarajanagara, 20 JUNE

 

A 32-year-old woman, Puttamma from Gundlupet taluk in Chamarajanagara district, was killed by a tiger near the Omkar range in Bandipur Tiger Reserve on Thursday afternoon. She was herding cattle when the tiger attacked and dragged her around 100 metres.

Villagers quickly informed the forest department, which recovered her body. After a post-mortem, it will be handed to her family.

Bandipur Conservator of Forest, Prabhakaran, confirmed the death was due to a tiger attack. A search operation is underway to locate the tiger involved. Camera traps have also been installed to monitor tiger movements in the area.

Authorities urge locals to remain cautious while moving near the reserve.
