Three members of a family allegedly died by suicide by jumping into a Hebbal reservoir in HD Kote taluk of Mysuru district.

Police recovered the bodies of trio; Mahadevaswamy, 55, resident of Budanur village of HD Kote taluk, his wife Manjula, 42, and their younger daughter Harshitha, 19.

The trio arrived on a bike on the early hours on Saturday, jumped into the reservoir after leaving behind a suicide note on their bike, police said. Passersby who saw their slippers near the bike, alerted the police.

According to the initial investigation, police suspect that they took the drastic step as they were upset after Mahadevaswamy’s elder daughter eloped with a youth recently, as shown in a complaint filed the relatives of deceased at HD Kote police station.

HD Kote police have registered a case and are verifying the details of the suicide note.
