Mysuru, 20 May
State Cooperation Minister KN Rajanna on Tuesday said the properties of
cooperative department officials found guilty of financial irregularities will
be seized. The move comes after departmental inquiries confirmed misuse of
funds in various cooperative institutions.
Speaking in Mysuru, Rajanna said multiple complaints had
been received against officials involved in misappropriation of funds in
cooperative banks and house building societies across Mysuru and other
districts. “Despite legal constraints in acting swiftly, we are working on
suitable amendments to cooperative laws to enable property seizure and stricter
penalties,” he said.
On criticism of the government’s flood management in
Bengaluru, Rajanna defended the administration, highlighting the eviction of
encroachments on stormwater drains and swift response measures. He added that
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, also the Bengaluru Development Minister,
was effectively handling the situation.
Addressing the delay in the Gruhalakshmi financial
assistance scheme, Rajanna attributed it to software glitches but assured that
the government would fulfil its promise.
On questions about a possible cabinet reshuffle or change in leadership, Rajanna said such decisions rest with the Congress high command.
