Belagavi cops lathicharge villagers asking for land to bury a soldier
People took to the streets in protest, prompting police to use batons to disperse the crowd.

The Belagavi police on Sunday night lathicharged people who
asked for a government land to bury a slain soldier, in Bailhongal taluk of
Belagavi.
25-year-old Vishnu Karjol from Muragod village in Bailhongal taluk attached to the Indian Army through the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment Centre at Belagavi had suffered a major injury after he fell on the ground when was on the duty, three months ago. He was undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Delhi, but unfortunately breathed his last on Wednesday. Army officials brought his body to his native on Sunday morning, which was received with the government honour.
The villagers had asked the Bailhongal tahasildar to provide
a separate piece of land to bury him but the requested was denied. People then
protested, to which the police lathicharged.
The body was later buried in the gram panchayat burial
yard.
