Bengaluru, 12 May

Pre-monsoon showers are set to return to Bengaluru and surrounding areas, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusty winds during evenings and nights over the next five days.

Partly cloudy skies will dominate the city's weather, with isolated rainfall expected across both Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts. The activity is attributed to changing atmospheric conditions and the formation of a trough over interior Karnataka, indicating strengthening pre-monsoon currents ahead of the southwest monsoon.

Rainfall is likely to intensify from Tuesday in other parts of Karnataka, especially along the coast, Malnad, and south interior regions. However, north interior Karnataka is expected to remain largely dry, with only patchy showers in some pockets.

Districts such as Ramanagara, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Tumakuru, Shivamogga, Davanagere, Hassan, and Chikkamagaluru are expected to see light to moderate rainfall. Coastal districts including Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Uttara Kannada may also experience scattered showers.

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) reported rainfall in parts of 26 districts, marking a clear revival of pre-monsoon activity across the State.
