A man allegedly hacked his wife and her lover to death over suspicions of
an extramarital affair in Madanahipparga village of Aland taluk on Thursday
night.
The accused, Shreemanta Shantamalla Bhakre, surrendered
to police shortly after killing his wife, Srushti Shreemanta Bhakre, 21, and
Khajappa Durgappa Gadivaddar, 23, a youth from the same village. He reportedly
used a sickle to carry out the killings.
According to police, Srushti and Shreemanta had been
married for two years. On Thursday, while Shreemanta was away working in a
watermelon field, Srushti invited Khajappa to their home. Upon noticing
Khajappa’s arrival on a motorcycle, neighbours locked the house from outside
and informed Shreemanta. On returning, Shreemanta caught the pair together,
dragged Khajappa to the backyard, and killed him. He then returned to the house
and killed his wife before surrendering at the local police station.
Sources said Khajappa had recently been appointed as a pump operator at the gram panchayat and was set to begin work soon. Shreemanta had allegedly warned him previously about the affair.
