Mysuru, 19 April

A woman and her lover allegedly murdered her husband after he opposed their extramarital affair in Mysuru’s Kakarawadi area. The victim, Mohammed Shafi, 35, was strangled with a mobile charger wire while he was asleep on Thursday night.

Shabreen Taz, 28, the wife of the deceased, had developed a relationship with Anwar, an autorickshaw driver who regularly picked her up and dropped her to her workplace at a garment factory. Married to Shafi for 12 years, Shabreen was the mother of two children. Shafi had grown suspicious of the affair and reportedly quarreled with her several times over it.

Unable to tolerate the pressure, Shabreen and Anwar allegedly hatched a plan to eliminate him. On Thursday night, they carried out the murder at their home while Shafi was asleep.

The crime came to light on Friday when Shafi’s relatives noticed suspicious marks on his neck and informed the police. Acting on the complaint, Krishnaraja Police launched an investigation and arrested the duo on Saturday.
