BIDAR, 18 April
A farmer was allegedly beaten and verbally abused by four
private bank staffers who were trying to recover a loan instalment in Bidar on
Thursday.
The farmer, Rajkumar Nagappa Matte, from Kesarajawalaga
village in Bhalki taluk, had reportedly taken a loan of Rs. 39,000 from Sidya Siri
Bank in Bhalki.
Nagappa said he had already repaid an amount to the tune of
Rs 36,000 through weekly instalments of Rs 835. Despite being timely with the
payments and with only three instalments left, the four staff allegedly beat
him with a stick while he was working in his field.
“I had taken a loan of Rs. 35,000/- from Sidya Siri Finance
in my wife’s name. While I was ploughing the field, Sidya Siri owner Sangamesh
Chamkode and field officer Sangamesh Shaliwahan Biradar arrived on a
motorcycle. They suddenly started abusing me and called me filthy words. They
asked why I hadn’t paid the remaining Rs 9,180,” Nagappa told Salar News. “Then,
Sangamesh Chamkode hit me on the forehead with a stick and Sangamesh Biradar
hit me on the back with his hand.”
“Soon after, cashier Kiran Patil and field officer Sunil
arrived and said, don’t spare him today.’ They both kicked me on both my
thighs.” Nagappa added,
A case was registered against the four under sections 115(2), 118(1), 351(2), and 352 3(5) of the BNS.
