CHINTAMANI, 8 APRIL

Around 30 students and a couple of teachers of the Government Polytechnic College in Chintamani were stung on their faces and hands by honeybees from a beehive on a tree on the premises.

The incident took place at around 9.15am when the students arrived in the college. As they were moving towards their classrooms, a swarm of honeybees surrounded them and began stinging.  Some students, who managed to run to safety, escaped unhurt.

The victims were rushed to the government hospital, where they were administered medicines and discharged.

The classes were affected for a couple of hours, said Principal Srinivas. He said it was not clear how the beehive was disturbed. He said none of the students sustained any major injury.
