BEO, 5 teachers booked as boy loses vision

CHINTAMANI, 7 APRIL 

Batlahalli police in Chintamani taluk of Chikkaballapur district have registered an FIR against the Block Education Officer (BEO) and six teachers after the parents of a six-year-old boy, Yeshwant, lodged a complaint with the police that their son lost vision after suffering eye injury at the school on 6 March, 2024.

The FIR was registered around 10pm after the parents of the boy, along with several villagers and former legislator KM Krishna Reddy held a dharana in front of the police station.   

Those who have been named in the FIR are BEO Uma Devi and teachers Saraswathi, Ashok, Narayanaswamy, Sri Rama Reddy and Venkataramana Reddy. 

The incident took plact at the government primary school in Yagavakote. While Saraswathi is accused of causing the injury, the others are accused of threatening the parents of the boy, said police.  

Yeshwant’s father Nataraj said that Saraswathi threw a stick at students, which hit Yeshwant in his right eye.  The boy was escorted home and his parents were told that there was no need for concern. 

Doctors at Victoria Hospital performed two surgeries in December, 2024, but could not resolve the issue. Later doctors at Narayana Netrlaya confirmed that the boy lost his vision permanently.
