MYSURU, 24 MARCH

The Principal District Session Court dismissed the bail application of Maulvi Mufti Mushtaq Maqbooli on Monday. He was arrested by local police for making inflammatory speeches related to a stone-pelting incident at the Udayagiri police station. This unrest occurred on the night of 10 February, following a provocative speech deemed to have incited a mob, resulting in injuries to police personnel and damage to official vehicles.

Mufti Mustaq Maqbooli was apprehended on 20 February and subsequently remanded in judicial custody. He faces charges of delivering hate speech and outraging religious feelings under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Reports indicate that his remarks referenced a controversial social media post targeting a specific religious community in the aftermath of the Delhi assembly election results. Allegedly, his incendiary comments spurred a gathering outside the police station where protestors engaged in stone-pelting, demanding action against a resident linked to the offensive post.
