Horatti, the Chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council, confirmed on Monday
that a resignation letter circulating on social media is unsigned and
unauthorised. Horatti explained that the letter, prepared by one of his personal
assistants without his permission, had been stored in his cupboard since 21
March, 2025.
Representing the
Council for an unprecedented eighth consecutive term, Horatti expressed his
disappointment with the declining standards of debate and growing indiscipline
among legislators. He lamented the deterioration of discussions in both the
Council and the Assembly, emphasising, “It is disheartening to witness the
level of debates hit a new low, affecting the overall conduct of members.”
Citing recent
controversies, Horatti questioned the suitability of presiding over such
sessions, stating, "The discussions about issues like honey traps reflect
the current state of politics." He expressed concern over the increasing
disrespect for the Chair and the failure of members to adhere to basic
instructions, prompting him to seriously contemplate his future in the role.
However, amid the swirling resignation rumours, Horatti clarified that the unsigned letter lacks authenticity and that he would consult with supporters before making a final decision. He stated, “I am currently holding off on resigning; many have urged me to remain active in politics.”
