BJP State President BY Vijayendra has criticised Congress for allegedly appeasing Muslims at the expense of Hindus, accusing them of prioritising minority interests over the development of the State.
Speaking during his visit to Kalaburagi for a family event, Vijayendra stated that the BJP is not anti-Muslim, but Congress’s focus on minority appeasement undermines the interests of Hindus. He further claimed that the state budget, presented under Congress’s leadership, was more centred on appeasing minorities rather than focusing on much-needed development.
Vijayendra also briefly addressed the controversial honey trap case, stating that the issue had already been discussed extensively in the Assembly. He pointed out that the case had become entangled with the Chief Minister’s position and noted the conflicting statements made by Congress leaders KN Rajanna and Satish Jarkiholi. He urged that they be questioned about the case, attributing the controversy to internal conflicts within the Congress party.
On the suspension of 18 BJP MLAs, Vijayendra condemned the action, calling it unconstitutional and an insult to the people of their constituencies. He described the six-month suspension as excessive and urged the Speaker to revoke it immediately.
Vijayendra also touched on his family's connection to Kalaburagi, with his brother’s son set to marry into a prominent local family. Former chief minister BS Yediyurappa highlighted the political advantage of strengthening family ties in the region, noting the growing influence of the BJP in Kalaburagi.
