A heated argument erupted in Chittaguppa Gram Panchayat, Bidar, on Wednesday
over the release of Rs 24 lakh, necessitating a police intervention.
The argument began when Manik Hipparagi, senior Gram Panchayat member and
former Panchayat president, demanded the release of approximately Rs 24 lakh
for various works carried out during his tenure. The Gram Panchayat’s in-charge
Development Officer (PDO) Bhagyajyoti, however, said no white paper, including
bills and receipts were provided.
“The PDO has colluded with some people to loot funds and is deliberately
withholding back the money,” Manik told Salar News. “I demand an investigation
into all works executed during the PDO’s tenure. If senior officials do not
take action within two days, I will protest.”
Bhagyajyoti on the other hand, reiterated the necessity for white paper. “I
have repeatedly asked member Manik to provide the necessary documents, but he
has failed to submit them,” she told Salar News. “How can funds be released
without proper documentation?”
Salar News could not verify what the funds were allegedly used for.
Bhagyajyoti further claimed that Manik had used objectionable language
against women. “During the meeting, he used inappropriate language against me.
He even stood outside the Panchayat office and used offensive words without
considering the presence of women members,” she said.
Manik denied the charges. “They disrespected me as a senior member by
calling the police to the Panchayat. This is an insult to me and our
Panchayat.”
