KALABURAGI, 17 MARCH
A shocking incident has unfolded in Kalaburagi, leaving the
local community in disbelief where a transgender woman, Ankita Chavhan, was
stripped, assaulted, and humiliated by her fellow companions in a daylight
attack. The assailants, named Shivani, Bhavani, Mala, and Sheela, targeted
Ankita after she requested the return of money she had earned through begging.
Ankita, who had been living with Mala, disclosed that she had been handing over
her earnings of approximately Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 daily. Following her demand
for her money back, she was brutally beaten by six other transgender women.
Ankita called for strict punishment for her attackers, noting that this was not
an isolated incident; she had faced multiple assaults for refusing to share her
earnings. In a related incident, tensions erupted at the Ganagapur Dattatreya
Temple, where one group of transgender individuals reportedly assaulted others
over territorial disputes regarding begging rights. The Ashok Nagar Police have
visited GIMS Hospital to gather details on the assault, with an ongoing
investigation seeking to uncover any further motives behind this brutal attack.
