FIR filed in Malavalli food poisoning case

MYSURU, 17 MARCH

The Malavalli Police have filed a FIR against six individuals linked to a suspected food poisoning incident that resulted in the death of a 13-year-old Meghalaya student from a private school. The incident also left 28 other students ill after consuming leftover pulao rice.

The FIR, initiated by Malavalli Block Education Officer Uma, targets event organiser Pushpendrakumar, hotel owner Siddaraju, Kalyana Mantap staff member Krishna, Gokul Vidya Samsthe school chief Lankesh, Secretary Jagadeesh, and school helper Abhishek.

The unfortunate event transpired at Gokula Vidya Samsthe in T Kagepura village, Mandya district, where on 14 March, a group celebrated Holi by hosting a feast, with the leftover food subsequently served to hostel students.

The following day, multiple students reported severe stomach pain and were hospitalised. Tragically, one boy collapsed on Sunday and was subsequently declared dead in hospital.

Currently, seven students remain in critical condition, with one placed on a ventilator and transferred to a Mysuru hospital as his condition has deteriorated.
