BIDAR, 15 MARCH
MLA Prabhu B
Chavan has voiced serious concerns regarding the shortage of Kannada teachers
in the schools of the Aurad (B) Assembly constituency during a recent
legislative assembly session. In response to his questions, Minister for School
Education and Literacy, S Madhu Bangarappa, revealed that 18 primary and 22
high schools in the area are experiencing a significant deficiency of teachers.
In an interim
measure, guest teachers have been appointed to fill some of these vacancies.
Furthermore, the government has approved the recruitment of 4,882 primary
school teachers and 385 high school teachers across the Kalyana Karnataka
region. However, following a Cabinet decision on 28 October, 2024, all new
notifications for direct recruitment in reserved categories under the Karnataka
State Civil Services have been placed on hold, preventing further recruitment.
Chavan, who has
made education and the preservation of the Kannada language his priorities,
stressed the need for equitable distribution of teachers, as some schools with
fewer students are overstaffed while others lack adequate faculty. He called
for immediate government action to address these discrepancies, ensure quality
education, and provide students the opportunity to excel in a competitive
world.
The MLA urged that special attention be given to schools in border regions to rectify ongoing challenges, particularly the critical teacher shortages impacting local education.
