Mysuru, 14 MARCH
Thousands
of people from across the city thronged the Karnataka Silk Industries
Corporation (KSIC) centenary hall near Silk Factory Circle on Manandavadi Road
on Friday to purchase Mysuru silk sarees at a special exhibition-cum-sale.
KSIC has
organized a three-day sale, offering a 25 per cent discount on its branded
Mysuru silk sarees until 15 March. The second day of the exhibition saw a heavy
rush on Friday. Although the expo is open to the public from 10am to 6pm women
in large numbers started arriving as early as 6 a.m., queuing outside the gates
to buy sarees.
KSIC has
set a target of selling 1,000 Mysuru silk sarees daily, priced between Rs 15,000
and Rs 2 lakh. Due to the overwhelming demand, KSIC, with assistance from both
the police and its security personnel, regulated the crowd by allowing entry in
a controlled manner through barricades.
More than 30 KSIC staff members have been deployed to manage sales and assist customers. The corporation has planned to continue selling sarees until stocks last, with the sale expected to conclude on Saturday. The first day of the exhibition on Thursday also witnessed a massive turnout.
