Yadgir, 9 MARCH
Following a reports by Salar News, the controversial appointment of a doctor facing
criminal charges as the head of Shahapur Public Hospital has been revoked.
The reports, published on 8 March along with earlier
articles on 1 and 7 March, exposed the violation of official directives in appointing
Dr Prabhulinga Mankar to the post of hospital administrator. It prompted
District Health and Family Welfare Officer (DHO) Dr Mahesh Biradar to withdraw
his order and issue a fresh directive.
On 25 February Biradar appointed Mankar as the administrator
of Shahapur Public Hospital, ignoring the commissioner's directive that
officials facing Lokayukta cases should not be appointed to administrative
positions.
The move sparked public outrage, with many questioning
the DHO’s decision, which appeared to be influenced by political pressure and
financial motives. The unauthorised appointment led to widespread criticism,
putting the health department under scrutiny.
Corruption Allegations and Suspension History
Mankar had previously served as the District Health and
Family Welfare Officer but was suspended last year following a Lokayukta raid
that uncovered assets disproportionate to his income. Despite this, he was
reinstated and appointed to a crucial administrative post, raising serious
ethical concerns.
It is learned that the Kalaburagi Divisional Director and Commissioner of the Health Department intervened after being alerted to the issue, leading to the immediate withdrawal of the appointment order.
