Bidar, 27 Feb

An alleged daylight robbery and knife-attack on a housewife in Koutha (B) village of Bidar district’s Aurad taluk had triggered panic among the people a few days ago. However, a detailed investigation found that the family had fabricated the robbery incident to escape from the pressure of creditors.

Omkara Aparao Gadage, a resident of Koutha (B) village, registered a case at Santpur police station on 21 February, alleging that when his wife Preeti was alone at home, two masked men entered the house through the back door, attacked her with a knife and took away 25 tolas of gold ornaments and Rs 1 lakh cash.

A team led by Superintendent of Police Pradeep Gunti visited the spot on the day of the incident and conducted preliminary investigation. The police later formed four teams to investigate the alleged crime.

However, during further probe, inconsistencies in the family's statements made the police suspicious and prompted a search of the house. The gold and cash that were allegedly stolen were found hidden inside the house.

"The family staged this drama as they were unable to repay their debts. There is no need for people to panic. We are committed to people's security and protecting their property. Strict action will be taken against those who file such false cases," Gunti said.
