Sirsi, 26 FEB

After seven cases of Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) were reported in Chikkamagaluru district earlier this month, a new case has been confirmed in Sirsi taluk, Uttara Kannada district, where a 51-year-old man has tested positive for the virus.

This is the first reported case of KFD in Uttara Kannada district this year. Last summer, the disease claimed approximately ten lives in the region. The patient had been undergoing treatment for 15 days at the Revankat Primary Health Centre in Sirsi taluk after his fever failed to subside.

His blood sample was sent for testing at a research center in Shivamogga, where results confirmed that he was positive for KFD. He is currently receiving treatment in an isolated ward at the government hospital in Sirsi.
