KALABURANGI, 24 FEB

An incident at the Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) led to severe discomfort for Bhagyashree, a 22-year-old from Badadal, after a cotton cloth was allegedly left inside her abdomen following a C-section on 5 February.

Despite seeking treatment in Solapur and Akkalkot, her pain persisted. Bhagyashree's brother Jagadish Mashala told Salar News that later an X-ray revealed the cloth inside her stomach. It was later removed at Karajagi Primary Health Center. Her family has accused GIMS of negligence and claimed that officials denied responsibility and refused to release her medical records.

The doctor Karajagi PHC, who removed the cloth and helped save Bhagyashree from a life-threatening situation was reportedly transferred suddenly. The family alleged that the authorities were reluctant to take action against the GIMS doctors, and were instead targeting the whistleblower.

The family also filed a complaint, demanding action against those responsible for negligence.

GIMS officials denied any wrongdoing. Kalaburagi (GIMS) District surgeon Dr. Asna(Rukhia) Baig, told  Salar News that, there was no negligence involved in the case and that the issue arose due to a communication gap between the doctors and the patient’s family. They claimed gauze was used to control bleeding and that the family failed to return for its scheduled removal, leading to complications.

(GIMS) DHO Dr Sharanabasappa Katanal and officials did not respond to the queries.
