BIDAR, 25 JAN

A 25-year-old woman, Reshma, took her life by suicide at her home in Bidar’s Goudagaon. The incident, which occurred on 22 January, is believed to result from mounting pressure from microfinance institutions.

Reshma had accumulated loans worth Rs 4 lakh from several lenders, including Dharmasthala, Chaitanya, Naya Chaitanya, LNT, Tata and Samastha. The monthly repayment burden, estimated at Rs 20,000 to 22,000, reportedly overwhelmed her.

According to the deceased's maid Vishal's police complaint, agents from the microfinance institutions would relentlessly visit Reshma's home daily, demanding immediate repayment.
