JD(S) State Core Committee Chairman GT Devegowda on Saturday said he will skip Sunday's party meeting in Bengaluru called to select the new president for party's State unit.

The Chamundeshwari MLA said he is now 75 years old and is not able to tour the State much as his age does not permit him. Devegowda said he will not be able to take part in the meeting as he is taking part in the events in his Assembly constituency, and does not want to be involved in party’s organisational issues.

“I am not miffed with anyone. I do not have any displeasure against any individuals in the party. Due to health reasons, I am not able to take part in the meeting,” he said.

Former prime minister HD Devegowda, former chief minister and Union minister HD Kumaraswamy will decide and select a new party chief for the State in the meeting.

As his son Hunsur MLA GD Harishgowda is a close friend of Nikhil Kumaraswamy, he has favoured the latter for the post and there is nothing wrong in his statement, he said.

About Minister Satish Jharkhiholi and Kumaraswamy airing their chief ministerial ambitions for 2028, he said: “I am not an astrologer to predict who will become next CM. In the current political atmosphere in the State. Aspirants who are issuing such statements are under illusion,” he said. -Salar News
