Mysuru, 30 Oct

The Chamarajanagar district administration has completed preparations for the five-day Deepavali celebrations at the Male Mahadeshwara Temple in Hanur taluk.

The temple is one of the highest revenue-generating Muzrai temples in the State, attracting over 5,00,000 devotees from various districts, including neighbouring Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

The festivities include rituals such as Ennemajjana and Deepavali Utsav on 30 October, Narakachatrudashi special pujas on 31 October, Deepavali Amavasya Puja and Halaravi Utsav on 1 November, and the Deepavali Maharathosav, along with a car festival, scheduled for the auspicious time of 7.30 am to 9 am.

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation will operate nearly 500 buses from various districts to MM Hills for this auspicious occasion.

Typically, the celebrations conclude with the Teppotsavam which involves in a procession of decorated idols through a temple tank. However, this year, it is unlikely to take place, as it has been cancelled for the last four years due to ongoing development work at Doddakere Lake, which is now in its final stages.

To accommodate the influx of devotees, the temple premises and car street have been cleaned and prepared, with designated parking areas identified. Executive secretary of the Srikshetra MM Hills Development Board MR AE Raghu said that all necessary arrangements have been made. -Salar News
