Bengaluru, 18 Sept
High Court on Wednesday granted an extension for the
installation of High-Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) on motor vehicles,
pushing the deadline to 20 November. The court was hearing appeals from
advocates seeking additional time for vehicle owners to comply with the
mandate.
Previously, the State government had set multiple deadlines
for HSRP installation, with the latest one being 14 September. Despite this
deadline, no penalties were enforced in the days leading up to the court's
ruling. High Court's extension means that motorists can now install the secure
plates without the worry of immediate fines.
The Karnataka government had initially planned a special
drive starting 16 September to encourage compliance among vehicle owners who
had not yet installed HSRPs. However, the court's decision provides additional
breathing room for motorists, allowing them to complete the installation
process at a more manageable pace.
Vehicle owners can apply for HSRPs through the Karnataka
Transport Department’s official website or the Society of Indian Automobile
Manufacturers (SIAM) portal. The application process involves selecting the
vehicle manufacturer, entering relevant vehicle details, choosing a dealership
for installation, and making the necessary payment. After completing OTP
verification, owners can schedule an installation appointment.-PTI
