Mandya
Superintendent of Police Mallikarjuna Baladandi on Wednesday appealed to the
residents who left Nagamangala town after the violence to return to their homes
as normalcy was restored following the strict vigil initiated by his
department.
Fearing
police arrest, people in Nagamangala left home and police will not initiate any
action against the innocents, Baladandi said. Even people whose names have
registered in the FIRs can return as it is not final. Police are verifying the
CCTV footage and have arrested only the real culprits, he said.
The
Superintendent of Police said they have filed 24 cases and arrested 55 people
in the violence. Among the 55 arrested, two are from Kerala’s Malappuram
district: Yousuf and Naseer. They have been running shops here for 18 years and
do not have any link with banned PFI organisations, he said.
As police
have received newspaper reports of the presence of Bangladesh immigrants,
police are investigating that angle also, he said. The SP said a team was
formed to investigate youths circulating the videos of the violence on social
media.—Salar News
