HC refuses to cancel Revanna’s bail in abduction case
Justice M Nagaprasanna, presiding over the single judge bench, rejected SIT’s petition, which sought to overturn the bail order
BENGALURU, 28 AUG
High Court on
Wednesday declined Special Investigation Team's (SIT) plea to cancel the bail
granted to JD(S) leader HD Revanna, who is facing charges in connection with
the abduction of a woman from KR Nagar, Mysuru district. Revanna, was initially
granted bail by the special court for people’s representatives on 13 May.
Justice M
Nagaprasanna, presiding over the single judge bench, rejected SIT’s petition,
which sought to overturn the bail order. Meanwhile, the court granted bail to
several co-accused in the case on Wednesday, including Satish Babanna, Madhu
Gowda, KA Rajagopal, HN Madhu, HK Sujay, and ST Keerthi. The decision follows
the earlier bail granted to Revanna's wife, Bhavani, who is also implicated in
the same case.
Senior Advocate,
Ravivarma Kumar, representing the SIT, had argued for the cancellation of
Revanna's bail, asserting that his release could potentially influence the
investigation. However, the court dismissed these concerns and upheld the bail
granted by the special court. A detailed judgment outlining the court’s
reasoning is expected to be released soon.
Senior Advocate CV
Nagesh, representing Revanna, argued that the prosecution's bid to cancel bail
was unfounded, as the kidnapping charge was baseless since the victim was an
adult and not a minor. He asserted that the alleged abduction lacked elements
of deception, coercion, or confinement, as the victim was a domestic worker who
was summoned without any threat. Salar News
