Bengaluru, 26 Aug

Three FIRs have been registered against actor Darshan since he has violated prison manuals, said Home Minister G Parameshwara on Monday, a day after a photo of the actor smoking with a coffee mug in hand in Central Jail at Parappana Agrahara in City emerged on social media sparking a row.

Additional Director General of Police (Prisons and Correctional Services) Malini Krishnamoorthy said the three FIRs pertain to the usage of mobile phones and cigarettes on the jail premises and the smuggling of these items inside the jail. “The FIRs also include the prison officers and those who used these items,” Krishnamoorthy said.

Parameshwara visited the jail on Monday and held talks with senior police officials and sought answers on why a raid conducted by Central Crime Branch on Saturday did not yield any results and why no mobile phones were found. “This is a serious security lapse. We will investigate who took the photos and how was it leaked,’’ Parameshwara said. The investigation will also find out who provided cigarettes, tea and chairs to the actor, he added.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has also taken serious notice of the lapses and said action will be taken against police officials.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition R Ashoka on Monday alleged that Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar was giving special privileges to Darshan in jail. “Shivakumar had met the actor inside the prison and had assured him of all the help.’’

In the leaked visuals, Darshan is flanked by his manager Nagaraj, notorious rowdy Wilson Garden Naga and criminal Kula Seena. In the last few months, police officers have been urging the authorities to shift Naga to another jail considering the clout he enjoys among other rowdy sheeters.

Naga, who is ruling the roost in the jail, is facing charges in five murders and attempted murders that are under trial, sources. He is well known in the City’s underworld for sorting out real estate disputes.
