Bengaluru, 24 Aug

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in select districts of State on Sunday and Monday.

An orange alert has been sounded for Udupi, Uttar Kannada, Shivamogga, Belagavi, Vijayapura, Kalaburagi and Yadgir districts on 25 and 26 August, indicating the possibility of downpours.

A yellow alert has been issued for Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Bagalkot, and Raichur districts on the same dates, warning of moderately heavy rainfall.

Widespread downpours are anticipated in coastal Karnataka, particularly Udupi and Uttar Kannada. The hilly regions, including Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts, are also likely to experience significant rainfall, raising concerns about possible landslides and flash floods.

IMD has advised fishermen along the coastal districts of Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi not to venture into the sea during this period. Strong winds, ranging from 45 kmph to 65 kmph, are expected to create turbulent sea waves, making marine activities extremely risky.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru and its surrounding areas are expected to see cloudy skies and moderate rainfall on Sunday and Monday. However, the City has not been placed under an orange or yellow alert. The weather department has predicted wind speeds of up to 40-50 kmph in the city, with temperatures ranging between 30 degrees Celsius during the day and 21 degrees Celsius at night. –Salar News
