Stipend of resident docs, PG students up by 25%

government has increased the stipend for senior resident doctors and postgraduate
medical students by 25 per cent after they threatened to launch a strike.
Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil approved the stipend hike on
Friday with retrospective effect from 1 August.
This decision comes after the non-emergency services at government hospitals in Bengaluru were disrupted as resident doctors were on strike from 5 to 23 August demanding reduction in college fees and increase in stipend.
Revised monthly stipend:
1. PG Resident Doctors
1st year - Rs
45,000 to 56,250
2nd year - Rs
50,000 to 62,500
3rd year - Rs
55,000 to 68,750
