BENGALURU, 6 JULY

State Department of Health and Family Welfare have designated Friday as the dry day of the week and urged citizens to prioritise cleanliness on the day by emptying water containers and cleaning water bodies.

The larvae of the dengue-causing mosquito ‘Aedes Aegypti’ grow due to the accumulation of water in containers and garbage. The government has advised the people to clean water-storing units such as tanks, plastic bottles and vessels to eliminate the growth of larvae. The procedure is: after emptying the water stored on house premises on the dry day, the vessels need to be cleaned and kept under the sun to dry completely. Cover the containers completely after refilling them.

There is no specific vaccine for the disease but only prevention can help in combatting this endemic, a senior health official in Chitradurga said.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,10,325 dengue cases and six deaths have been reported in Karnataka from May this year till Saturday. Hassan has the highest number of positive cases in the State, the health official said. More than 2,000 people have tested positive for dengue fever this week in the City. On Friday, 146 cases and one death from Ajanapura were reported in the City.

To detect and destroy larvae along with spreading awareness about dengue, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has visited more than 4.4 lakh houses since 28 June.

BBMP Chief Health Officer Syed Sirajuddin Madani told Salar News, “We are on the field every day. More than 1,000 teams of Asha workers, health officers and supervisors are going to homes and giving awareness to the public. We have carried out awareness campaigns on dengue fever in nursing colleges and schools as well.” —Salar News
