33 kids fall ill after eating mid-day meal in Kalaburagi

The students reported symptoms like stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhoea shortly after consuming the mid-day meal

BENGALURU, 3 JULY

 

In a tragic incident, 33 children fell ill after consuming mid-day meals at Kanaganahalli Higher Primary School in Chittapur, Kalaburagi district on Wednesday. The students reported symptoms like stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhoea shortly after consuming the mid-day meal later it was found to be contaminated with rainwater. Dr Sharanabasappa Ganajalakhed, district health officer (DHO), confirmed that five severely affected students were admitted to the government hospital in Wadi, while the others received treatment at Kollur Primary Health Centre (PHC). Fortunately, most children recovered quickly and were discharged the same day.

 

The school authorities and local villagers took the students to hospitals using bikes and tractors as ambulances were not readily available. This incident marks the second occurrence in the district within three days after a similar event in Jevargi on Saturday. On Saturday, at least 17 students fell sick after consuming meals at Morarji Desai Girls Residential School in Jewargi taluk marking a second incident of consuming a mid-day meal. Salar News
